TV DOC TAKES ON ARLA GREAT NORTH SWIM TO PROMOTE BENEFITS OF SWIMMING

Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi, Royal College of GPs (RCGP) Lifestyle and Physical Activity Clinical Champion and regular contributor to Channel 4's Steph's Packed Lunch, will take on a gruelling 5K challenge at the Arla Great North Swim this Summer.

Dr Hussain is part of an advisory panel for Swim England, working with them to promote the benefits of swimming for everyone. He has recently been featured in their Swimming as Medicine campaign, sharing his suggestions with other healthcare professionals on how to have physical activity conversations around swimming with patients.

Dr Hussain explains, “As an expert in lifestyle medicine I use my role as a GP and Physical Activity Champion at the RCGP to promote activity as therapy for mental and physical health. Events like the Great North Swim are a brilliant way to encourage people to set a goal and commit to regular exercise. I've seen first had the transformative effect it has had on patients. Getting outside and into the open water has proven benefits for our physical and mental wellbeing. I'm looking forward to meeting lots of inspirational swimmers and hearing about their swimming journeys at the event.”

Dr Hussain will be joining thousands of swimmers of all ages and abilities in June. They will be taking on a range of distances, from the beginners Swim250 all the way through to the open water ‘marathon' 10K.

The Arla Great North Swim is a weekend-long celebration of open water swimming. Set against the stunning back drop of the Lake District National Park, swimmers and their supporters can also enjoy the best of local food and drink and outdoor activities at the events home, Brockhole on Windermere.
