Brockhole on Windermere
10 June 2023

Unfortunately, the Great North SwimRun scheduled for Saturday 11 June, has been cancelled. The weather forecast shows challenging conditions, so multiple swims in unsheltered sections of the lake as well as exposed running terrain means it would be unsafe for the event to proceed. We understand this will be disappointing news, but the safety and well-being of our participants is our number one priority.

All SwimRun participants have the option to roll their entry over to the next staging of the event (10 June 2023), or request a refund. All participants have been sent an email with more information. The deadline for refund requests is 10am on Friday 1 July.

Great North SwimRun

SwimRun is based on teamwork, passion, and closeness to nature, teams of two embark on a seamless journey across the landscape, taking on land and water, as they navigate their way around the Short, Middle and Endurance distances. The Great North SwimRun is an opportunity to ditch the roads and the pool; limber up and embrace an off-road, open-water island-hopping adventure!

The Great North SwimRun will return on Saturday 10 June 2023. SIgn up to the reminder service to be notified as soon as entries open.

Choose your distance

Short (12.6km)

Entry price per person.

Middle (23.9km)

Entry price per team of two.

Endurance (38.8km)

Entry price per team of two.

How it works

For the Short distance single participants, as well as teams are permitted to take part. For the Middle and Endurance distances however, entries must be made in teams of two.

SwimRun rules are simple - complete your chosen distance carrying everything you need from start to finish; this means wearing your trainers and wetsuit for both the land and water sections of the course!

Please note: There will be a mandatory briefing prior to the event (details tbc.)

Event Location

The Lake District National Park is one of the most awe-inspiring locations in the world. We’re hoping this event will encourage people from around the UK to see it from a new perspective and experience an exhilarating and challenging activity in their own backyard.

The event begins on the shores of Windermere, England's largest lake at 10.5 miles long (17km), stretching from Ambleside in the North to Newby Bridge in the South. The finish line of the event will be shared with the Great North Swim, where family and friends can watch all the action while enjoying food and drink from local vendors.
