Prepare for the cooler temperature

.

Open water swimming is very different to the pool, mainly due to the temperature of the water.  With the water temperature set to be cooler than last year we want to make sure you enjoy your day as much as possible, so read the following points and be fully prepared for your big day:

- Check that you have a well-fitted wetsuit, which you've practiced in. Baggy suits don't retain heat effectively.  We recommend neoprene wetsuits of 3mm thickness and above.
- Wear 2 swim hats to keep in the heat (make sure your Great Swim cap is the one on top).

There's still time to practice in the open water - if you can, we'd highly recommend it.
- Once you have checked in it is essential that you acclimatise to the water.  There will be an opportunity to do this before you start your swim.
- Immediately after your swim you will find a space blanket in your finisher's pack - make sure you use it until you change.
- Bring warm, dry clothes to change into once you're out of the water.  There are secure baggage and changing facilities on site.
- Booties and gloves are recommended for your swim.  These will be available to buy at the Aqua Sphere stall in the swim village.
- Take advantage of the food and drink stalls after your swim - there will be hot items available so you can get warmed up.
