TV Personality and star of TOWIE, James ‘Arg' Argent, will be taking on the John West Great North Swim and John West Great East Swim this June.

After impressing audiences with his swimming ability in the 2019 series Sink or Swim, Arg has signed up to the challenge as a way of keeping motivated to stick to his fitness goals which include another bid to swim the English Channel.

Like many people, Arg gained weight during the pandemic, and made the decision to undertake gastric surgery earlier in the year for the sake of his health. He hopes he can inspire other people struggling with their fitness to get involved in open water swimming.

Arg said,” Swimming is like meditation to me and when I'm in the pool it gives me the chance to clear my mind and focus only on swimming.

“I've got big aspirations to swim across the English Channel, and from Europe to Africa, and I know that the John West Great Swim Series organise two fantastic events in Lake Windermere and Alton Water, that will act as the perfect stepping stones to helping me achieve my dreams.

“I'm really excited to be back in the pool to start my training again, and can't wait to take part in both the swim events this June.”

The John West Great North Swim will take place at Brockhole on Windermere from Friday 11 - Sunday 13 June 2021, against the backdrop of the iconic Lake District National Park. The John West Great East Swim will take place on Saturday 19 June at the picturesque Alton Water in Suffolk, just over an hour from Central London by train.

Both events will follow strict COVID-secure procedures, ensuring the safety of participants, spectators and Great Swim crew.

Event Director Colin Murphy said, “We're all looking forward to seeing Arg at the John West Great Swim series this Summer.

“His performance in Sink or Swim was really inspirational and I know our swimmers will be excited to see him on the start line of the Great Swim events.

“We're looking forward to welcoming him and all of our customers back to live events after last year's cancellations.

“We know there are so many people out there who can't wait to take part in a proper sporting event again, and so many national and local charities who will benefit from a return to fundraising.”
